Israel Moth Week was held this year for the first time, inspired by National Moth Week, a global citizen science event that began in the United States and is now celebrated in many countries around the world each July. Moth activity in Israel is relatively low at that time of year, even at night, because of the heat. In contrast, autumn is a peak time for moth activity, when it is possible to encounter a very large variety of species. For this reason, we decided to establish Israel Moth Week in autumn, and the first Israel Moth Week took place on 24–31 October 2025. As can be seen in the results summarized in the report, many more moth species were observed and more observations were submitted during Israel Moth Week, both thanks to the season and thanks to the expanded sampling effort using light traps run by volunteers.
